Yesterday, the Supreme Court announced it will decide whether millions of patients will have access to mifepristone, the safe and commonly used pill for abortion. Don’t be fooled, this decision will have a devastating impact on abortion in Nevada.

Although legal in Nevada, patients are increasingly unable to access care due to restrictions. This includes lack of insurance coverage and other financial barriers, physician shortages and lack of access to practitioners, language barriers, and stigma and fear of violence.

Mifepristone, also known as the abortion pill, provides safe and effective care to patients facing these barriers. The pill was approved by the F.D.A in 2000 and more than 5 million patients seeking abortion care have taken the pill since that time.

If restricted, there will be a devastating impact on patients in Nevada who are limited by these barriers. Don’t be fooled, the constitutional right to abortion is obsolete without access.

Republicans and anti-choice groups have made good on their promise to end the right to abortion across this country by limiting access to care. In Nevada, every single Republican state legislator voted against protecting the right to abortion, despite overwhelming support by the public.

Nevadans deserve leaders who will fight, not only to protect the right to abortion, but also to expand access. We must ensure that every person has the right to decide when, where, and how they start a family.

Join the fight to protect abortion rights in Nevada!
